A long way from the open sea are these fish! During a recent jaunt to Mielke's Used Auto Parts (413/229-7762) in the quaint town of Sheffield, Massachusetts, we discovered this quartet of beached Barracudas. Though rust and accident damage have conspired to render them beyond salvage, each one is still packed with valuable trinkets that could be used in reviving other members of Plymouth's ponycar set.

Groovy Factoids* Plymouth introduced the Barracuda two weeks before the April 17, 1964, debut of the Ford Mustang. This technicality makes the Barracuda Detroit's first ponycar offering.

* Rumors persist that Plymouth almost named its new compact ponycar Piranha, but management balked when it was pointed out that its initials would be P.P.
