Hazzard County MishapHollywood stunt driver Corey Eubanks arrived looking to set another jumpin' General Lee record at the 2005 running of DukesFest, a giant party of car and country culture held annually at Bristol Motor Speedway in Bristol, Tennessee. Eubanks was the first act out on Sunday afternoon, driving a replica General Lee Dodge Charger owned by Ben Jones, the actor who played Cooter on the Dukes of Hazzard TV show. For the jump, the Charger had been outfitted with some expendable pieces and 500 pounds of cement in the trunk. However, when the car hit the ramp at around 60-70 mph, Eubanks' plan went terribly awry. The Charger's speed shredded the ramp surface, which sent it up and into a nosedive far short of the record. The violent impact flipped the car, but Eubanks emerged without serious injury. The Sunday crowd loved it, the local firemen shook their heads in disapproval, Eubanks smiled for the cameras, and the record jump? Well, maybe next year.
