Originally dubbed the "Anti-Tour" by rebellious Car Craft staffers, the current iteration maintains a lax and intentionally disjointed vibe. We again announced the event only three weeks before it took place to keep it small and manageable. The 4th Annual Car Craft Road Trip proved to be challenging as well as a whole lot of fun. We took the same route as last year, starting at Los Angeles County Raceway in the high desert above L.A., and ending in San Luis Obispo. Some of the usual suspects showed up (you know who you are) and made the trip a memorable experience.
The drag-racing portion of our annual event brought out some mean machinery to duke it out in the sweltering heat. Fortunately, no one broke anything at the track this year. The drive up was relatively uneventful (we like it like that) but unpleasantly hot for those cars lacking A/C. One wag called this the Easy-Bake Oven portion of the tour. This year the kickoff barbeque was held conveniently in our hotel, where we were treated to tri-tip and cold beverages. The Wheels of SLO car show, hosted by Central Coast Productions (805/773-9999), was as good as always. It was located downtown on Higuera Street, and the coastal weather was perfect. We had the good fortune of having dinner with some loyal readers who actually didn't mind our company. Even the trip back was fun. Where will next year's road trip take us? Should we try something different? We'll keep you posted. See you next year!
